Course Overview

Course Synopsis

The course Positive psychology (PSY409) is designed to introduce students to the concepts related to positive psychology. Positive Psychology is a science of subjective experience, positive individual traits and positive institutions which promise to improve quality of life and prevent the pathologies that arises when life is barren and meaningless. At a quite general level, positive psychology can be described as an effort to use the tools of rigorous science to help us understand the sources and nature of positive human strengths, characteristics, resources, and aspirations. Topics which have been included are an overview of positive psychology, positive emotional states and processes, positive cognitive states and processes, prosocial behavior, understanding and changing human behavior, positive environments.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of course you should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of personal experiences and traits contributing toward greater subjective well-being.
  • Improve their relationships and interaction with others.
  • Conquer or reduce stress in life.
  • To develop a deeper insight in the current research focused on human strengths and virtues.
