Course Synopsis
|
This course is designed to be taught at under graduate level programs in business and management disciplines. The objective of this course is to introduce the students with the importance of Training and Development as one of the important human resource functions of the organization. Students are enabled to appreciate the role of T&D in building the competitive advantage of an organization. This course is an important study guide for those students who want to develop their careers in training consultancy, human resource practice or in the managerial domain of any functional area of the organization. Students will be given an introduction to the various theoretical concepts behind T&D practices such as learning and motivation. They will also learn how to conduct Training Needs Analysis (TNA), design effective training programs and evaluate performance metrics. Different types of training programs will be examined, including orientation, skills training, team building, management development, leadership development and diversity training. The course will also include the discussion and analysis of a number of case studies so that the students are able to apply theoretical concepts to real-life business scenarios.

After completing this course, students should be able to:
- Discuss the importance of training and development and its alignment with an organization’s strategic objectives
- Conduct basic training needs assessment, construct a training design and develop evaluation methods for training programs
- Understand the various types of training methods and their appropriateness for a particular training requirement
- Manage self-directed learning
- Understand the various dimensions of management development, leadership development and career management
- Critically analyse real-life business situations by using the theoretical concepts from literature and examples from practical case studies.
