MGMT617 : Production Planning and Inventory Control

Course Overview

Course Synopsis

The course of Production Planning & Inventory Control (PPIC) is an essential part of Operations and Supply Chain Management. It covers two major, but interrelated, operational areas of a manufacturing concerns i.e. Manufacturing Planning and Inventory Management. The manufacturing planning and control (MPC) system is concerned with planning and controlling all aspects of manufacturing, including managing materials, scheduling machines and people, and coordinating suppliers and key customers. Similarly, inventory management is all about having the right amount of product, at the right price, at the right time and in the right place. As today’s market is too volatile, the above mentioned activities change over time and respond differently to different markets and company strategies. So, the development of an effective production & inventory planning and control system is key to the success of any enterprise. Moreover, truly effective PPIC systems coordinate supply chains and joint efforts across the company boundaries. Finally, PPIC systems design is not a one-time effort; they need to continuously adapt and respond to changes in the company environment, strategy, customer requirements, particular problems and new supply chain opportunities. Addressing such challenges, this course provides a hand on planning and control of manufacturing and inventory systems – while responding to changes in the competitive environment.
