Course Overview

Course Synopsis

Topics covered include: basic tools, simple random sampling, ratio and regression estimation, stratification, systematic sampling, cluster (area) sampling, unequal probability sampling and non-sampling errors. For illustration and clarification, examples are drawn from diverse areas of application.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you should be able:

  • To introduce distinctive methodologies related to sampling designs.
  • To build on students’ existing knowledge of sampling techniques.
  • To get the knowledge about the economical use of available resources such as time, money and manpower in connection with the information obtained through sample survey.
  • To apply the sampling tools in real life problems.
  • To understand theoretical study the impact of various types of errors encountered in a sample survey
