Course Overview

Course Synopsis

Forensic Psychology is a course dealing with the application of psychology in legal settings and law enforcement. Since it is a new area for Pakistan, special attention is given to how the principles of forensic psychology might be applied in Pakistan. The subject introduces wide range of issues such as the role of psychologists in police recruitment and stress management. Forensic psychology develops proficient understanding about criminal profiling. The key topics which we introduce are the treatment of sex offenders and reduction of violent behavior. The major emphasis of the course will be on hands-on treatment approaches for violence and different personality theories regarding criminal behavior and sexual offences.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Evaluate and recognize different models of violence.
  • Explain how the violence reduction program works and what check lists and psychological tests are used to measure change.
  • Discuss the key concepts of risk assessment and checklists used for this purpose.
  • Describe the relation of different personality disorders and crimes.
  • To develop an understanding of the key concept of antisocial personality disorder and crimes.
