Course Overview

Course Synopsis

Governance and Democracy are vital phenomena in the arena of Public Administration. These two concepts have long history and have acquired different shapes and forms over the period of time. Society has strong relationship with governance and democracy. Every society has its own values, culture and norms and all these elements shape a society in a particular form. Consequently, society has its own impact on governance and democracy due to diverse cultures and norms. Therefore, it is necessary to study governance and democracy in the context of every society along with their cultural aspects. Thus, this course offers a blend of theoretical concepts along with examples of real world democracies and societies. It familiarizes students with the history of these phenomena, associated concepts, elements and actors theoretically as well as in the context of Pakistan. The ultimate purpose of this course is to equip students to understand governance, democracy and societal issues and problems on the basis of research, insight and theoretical knowledge. The real world examples from diverse countries including Pakistan offered in this course will help students to understand different aspects of these phenomena in critical and practical ways.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the associated elements and actors of these three phenomena
  • Comprehend the relationship of Governance, Democracy and Society
  • Understand these three phenomena in the context of Pakistan
