Course Synopsis
|
The goal of this course is to introduce the students with an interdisciplinary nature of gender studies and given them understanding about the contemporary challenges associated with gender representation in our society This course will also cover the feminism and its diverse schools of thought briefly. It will provide the foundational understanding of gender equality and its relation with human rights discourse highlighted in international human rights conventions and documents. Additionally, approaches on development and gender and women’s political participation within and beyond electoral politics, will also be examined. The course will develop the capacity in students to connect gender issues in their personal/local situation with the broader social environment, thus equipping their ability to think critically and act effectively as social change agents.

Course Learning Outcomes
|
After completing this course the students will:
- Understand the basic ideas of gender and how the concept of gender have evolved over time.
- Understand of the link between gender and social institutions and the factors and mechanisms involved.
- Develop a balanced approach to understanding socialization, gender roles, and gender relations.
- Explain the concepts of gender equality and equity, the connection between gender, violance and health
- Analyze the major perspectives of gender and the role of social institution in gender development.
